Fire Ban FAQs

Are campfires allowed during Stage 1 fire restrictions?
Stage 1 bans open fires, charcoal grills, and smoking outdoors. Gas or propane stoves with an on/off valve are allowed in most jurisdictions. Fire rings at developed campgrounds are typically also banned. Always check the specific county order.
Can I use a backpacking stove during fire bans?
Yes, in most cases. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves with an on/off valve are allowed under both Stage 1 and Stage 2 restrictions across most Colorado jurisdictions. You need to be on a surface clear of flammable material.
How often is this data updated?
We check USFS, BLM, county sheriff offices, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife at least weekly during fire season (May–October). During high-risk periods, we update more frequently. Your trip plan always reflects the latest restrictions.
Is ColoradoPeakPlan affiliated with the government?
No. We are an independent trip planning service built in Salida, Colorado. We aggregate publicly available fire restriction data from federal and county agencies. Always verify restrictions with the issuing agency before your trip.
